In the craziness of modern life where it seems the weeks go by faster with each one gone, the journey to self-discovery often takes a back seat. How could it not? Self discovery and reflection can hurt, can be be painful. And who the heck wants to dredge up old pain and traumas? Especially when we have the ultimate distraction in our hands - hours of endless scrolling online, images and videos to fill our minds and take our thoughts of ourselves. And when we get sick of scrolling, there’s always Netflix.

But there is a downside to ignoring the self, the traumas, the pain. Take it from me. I ignored my inner self for a long time, kept busy with working and studying. I now live everyday with fibromyalgia and the symptoms it brings. Some days i can’t help by think if having fibromyalgia is partly an outward manifestation of my inner self. This is why paying attention to one’s self, one’s emotions and inner thoughts  it so important. Yet most of us as still scrolling and seeing whats new on Netflix.

However, understanding oneself is crucial for personal growth and overall well-being. Yes, this work is hard but it’s the payoffs that are the true shining moments that give more & more healing with each day.
